How we counted
Every number on this page comes from one source: our own count inside a Canadian SeniorMatch member account, taken on 21 September 2026. We read the newest Canadian profiles the site showed that account, sorted by join date, at a human pace, the way an ordinary visitor scrolls. The account was a woman's account seeking men, so the counts describe the men's side. We have no way to count the women.
Before any number in this piece, four things are worth saying plainly. The pool is not large: about 1,450 men across the whole country by our estimate, well short of the hundreds of thousands a national dating app might claim. The men's-side limit above means every figure describes at most half the membership. The national total further down is a labelled estimate built from two counts that agree, since SeniorMatch does not publish an official figure itself. And the newest arrivals we sampled are far more active than the site's older members, so a healthy-looking activity rate near the top of this page does not describe everyone who has ever joined.
Two different counts feed this page, and they should never be read as the same thing. One is the newest 499 Canadian profiles, sorted by join date: a sample, useful for shares, cities and ages. The other is Alberta and the 9 smaller provinces and territories, each counted to the end of the list: every member the account could see in the province, read to the end of the list. Only a listed member active within the last 180 days shows up in either count; no listed member in the fully counted areas had been inactive for longer than 180 days; in the five fully counted areas with 20 or more members, the longest time since a listed member was last active ranged from 174 to 180 days. Tomorrow: if a province matters to you, look for its own number in the tables below; the national figure will not apply evenly everywhere.
Where they live
Four provinces hold most of the group we found. Ontario was the largest share of the sample at 32.7%, and its profiles cluster in a short list of cities: Toronto led with 18, then Mississauga and London, 7 and 7 respectively. Quebec followed close behind at 29.1%, led by Montreal (25) and Quebec City (15), with Laval a distant third at 7. British Columbia came in at 13.8%, Vancouver (9) well ahead of Burnaby (5) and the rest of the province. Alberta's newest arrivals made up 12.4% of the sample, split evenly between Calgary and Edmonton at 16 profiles each.

Those four provinces together account for 88.0% of every newest profile we saw; the 9 smaller provinces and territories we counted in full share what is left. Canadian membership leans hard toward a handful of big cities, and the table further down this page shows just how thin the rest of the country is by comparison. How active they are
This is the single most useful number on this page, and it runs opposite the age of the profile. Among the newest arrivals we counted, 17.2% had signed back in within a week and 57.1% within a month, which says the newest names on the list are genuinely fresh.
Alberta's full membership, the whole list, tells a cooler story. Only 11.4% of everyone counted there had signed in within a week, and 28.4% within a month, just under three in ten. New members show up keen and log in often in their first weeks; the longer a profile sits on the site, the less often its owner opens it. That gap is worth remembering before you message someone whose profile looks old: expect a slower reply, or none at all. Ages, Premium and verified photos
The median age among the newest Canadian profiles was 66, with ages running from 50 to 87. That is a wide band centred in the mid-sixties, with room on both ends: some members well into their eighties, a smaller number as young as 50, the youngest profile in our sample.
Two badges are worth knowing before you browse. 8.6% of the profiles we counted carried a Premium membership, the tier that lets a member message someone first. 34.7% carried a verified-photo badge, SeniorMatch's own check that a profile's picture matches the person behind it. Neither badge is required to use the site, but both are a quick way to judge a profile before you spend time on it.
Almost everyone we counted, 98.0%, was a man. That reflects what a woman's account sees when she searches for men: a picture of that search itself. If you are a woman reading this, the numbers above describe specifically the men available to you. Tomorrow: filter for a verified photo and a Premium badge together if you want to message people first and skip profiles you cannot confirm are real.
The national estimate
About 1,450 men, by our estimate, are visible across Canada on SeniorMatch. That figure comes from two different calculations that landed close enough together to trust. The first scales up from Alberta: we counted 176 men there in full, and Alberta's newest arrivals made up 12.4% of our national sample, so scaling that share up across the country points to about 1,417 men nationwide. The second scales up from the opposite direction: the 9 smaller provinces and territories we counted in full held 178 men between them, and running the same math from their combined share of the sample points to about 1,480.
Those two routes land close together, which is why we print this figure. It is a labelled estimate, not a count: nobody, including SeniorMatch, publishes an official national membership figure, so there is no outside number to check this one against. It also carries the same limit as everything else here: it describes the men we could see from a woman's account, and says nothing about how many women are members. Tomorrow: treat this number as a country-wide order of size, and check the tables above and below for your own city or province.

Alberta was not the only province we counted to the end of the list. The other 9 provinces and territories are small enough that we could read every visible profile in full, which makes their figures exact for the day we counted.

A few patterns stand out in the table above. Manitoba, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick all show a healthier monthly activity rate than Alberta's own 28.4%, even though their member counts are far smaller: a small province can still have an engaged group. Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are small enough, 9 men and fewer, that we did not report an activity rate or a leading city; a handful of members is not enough to describe a pattern without overstating it. Tomorrow: if you live in one of these 9 smaller provinces or territories, widen your search to the whole province. A dozen members spread across a territory beats zero found by searching only your own town.
What it means for you
The practical advice differs by where you live. If you are in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia or Alberta, the numbers above say there is enough of a pool to search your own city first: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton all had a real cluster of profiles in our count. Narrow the search that way before you widen it.
If you are in one of the smaller provinces or territories, set the search to the whole province. 9 provinces and territories combined for only 178 men in our full count, so a city-only search there is likely to come back close to empty.

It depends on the province, and on whether we counted it in full or estimated it. Alberta was counted to the end of the list: 176 men visible, an exact figure for the day we counted. Most other provinces are estimates built from the national total and each province's share of the newest-profile sample: Ontario, for example, comes out to about 470. This page lists every province, either above or in the table further down.
Are there women on SeniorMatch in Canada?
There must be, since the men we counted are looking for them, but we cannot count them ourselves. Our census came from a woman's account, and SeniorMatch's search only shows a member the opposite sex they are looking for, so every figure on this page describes the men's side only. We have no reliable way to estimate how many women are members, and we would rather say that plainly than guess at a number we cannot check.
