What SeniorMatch costs in Canada

Two price lists, two currencies

SeniorMatch sells the same one, three and six month plans through two separate channels, and each channel bills in a different currency. On the website, read inside a member account's upgrade pages on 16 September 2026, the three plans cost $33.99 USD, $69.99 USD and $109.99 USD. On the Canadian App Store, read 24 September 2026, the same three lengths cost $45.99 CAD, $91.99 CAD and $144.99 CAD, already in Canadian dollars, with no conversion needed. Both figures are correct for their own channel: the table below lines them up side by side, along with what a Canadian card actually pays once the exchange rate and its own fee are added on top of the website's US dollar total.

The App Store listing is not fully consistent with itself: the description text above the purchase list quotes $34.99, $69.99, $109.99 for the three lengths, lower figures that do not match what a buyer is actually charged. We compared both blocks on the same listing on 24 September 2026, and only the purchase list, the one you tap to pay, matches the totals in the table above. That same purchase list also carries pricier items on top of the plain plans: one month premium at $69.00, one month chairman at $700.00, three month premium at $129.00, six month premium at $200.00. The listing does not say what premium or chairman membership adds over the ordinary one, three and six month plans, so the table above sticks to those three plain ones. What a Canadian card adds

A Canadian card does not pay US dollars directly. When SeniorMatch charges $33.99 USD in US funds, the card network converts the charge to Canadian dollars at its own daily rate, and the card issuer typically adds a foreign-transaction fee on top of that conversion; the two Canadian cards we checked below both charge exactly 2.5%. Worked through for one month: $33.99 USD at the Bank of Canada's rate for 22 September 2026 (1.4064) comes to $47.80 CAD before any card fee, and $49.00 CAD once that 2.5% foreign-transaction fee is added on top. That fee is the part that turns a US dollar sticker price into an actual Canadian dollar bill, and it applies however long the plan runs.

Not every card charges the same rate. Royal Bank of Canada's Visa Classic Low Rate card and TD's Cash Back Mastercard both currently disclose exactly 2.5% on foreign purchases, in the fine print each bank publishes for that specific card, but other cards, including other cards from those same two banks, post different numbers of their own. This fee comes from the card issuer, not from SeniorMatch: it lives entirely in the card's terms, usually under a heading like foreign currency conversion or foreign transaction fee. Before paying on the website, find that line on your own card's disclosure sheet or a recent statement. It decides what $33.99 USD actually costs more than anything printed on SeniorMatch itself.

Website or App Store

For each length, one channel worked out to less than the other on the dates we checked, though not by the same amount, and not necessarily the same channel every time someone looks. One month favored the Canadian App Store by $3.01 CAD; three months favored the Canadian App Store by $8.90 CAD; six months favored the Canadian App Store by $13.57 CAD. That ranking comes out of the exchange rate for 22 September 2026 and the 2.5% card fee used above, and both of those move on their own, so a page checked today can read differently in a month.

The two channels differ in more than price. An App Store subscription is billed and renewed by Apple, not SeniorMatch: cancelling it means following this path on the phone: Settings app > your name > Subscriptions > the subscription > Cancel Subscription. A website subscription is billed and renewed by SeniorMatch directly: cancelling it means following this path inside the account: Settings > Subscriptions > click "Your membership will automatically renew until you cancel your subscription by clicking here" > CONTINUE MANAGEMENT. Whichever channel a plan is bought through is also the one it has to be cancelled through, which is worth weighing alongside the price itself. On the day you actually pay, open the App Store's purchase list on your phone and work out the website's Canadian dollar price at that day's rate before choosing between them.

What you can do before paying

A free SeniorMatch account can build a profile, browse the site, and answer anyone who already pays and writes first, but it cannot start a conversation of its own. SeniorMatch's own help pages put that limit in blunt terms: "As a Standard Member, you cannot initiate or continue conversations unless the other person currently has a PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP." There is no separate free trial layered on top of that restriction: the checkout pages read 16 September 2026 showed no trial offer of any kind, so a paid plan starts billing the moment it is confirmed, with nothing to sample first. A free account is, in practice, the only trial SeniorMatch has: it costs nothing and shows a new member how the site actually works before any card is asked for.

Our own count, taken 21 September 2026, backs this up: of the newest 499 Canadian profiles on the men's side of the site, as shown to a woman's account, only 8.6% carried a Premium membership. Since only a Premium member can write first, most of the unprompted messages a free account receives would have to come from that smaller slice, not from the full 499, and that is our own inference from the count, not something SeniorMatch states outright. Tomorrow: register a free account, open the search filters, set Location to Living in, then choose Canada and your own province, and spend a week browsing and replying before deciding whether a paid plan is worth it.

Auto-renewal, refunds, cancelling

A SeniorMatch subscription does not quietly end when its term is up. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same length until the member cancels. The service agreement is explicit about it: "After the initial subscription term and any subsequent renewal periods, your subscription will automatically renew for the same duration as your initial subscription." If a plan is left alone, it charges again for the same length it was bought at, in whichever currency that channel uses, on or near the date the current term runs out.

There is a short window to change your mind after paying: 3 business days from the day you subscribe. The agreement states it in one line: "you may cancel a subscription within three (3) business days of subscribing to our Service to receive a refund by notifying us through the contact information provided below." Outside that window, the same document says the charge stands and nothing is refunded. Cancelling at that point stops future renewals, not the charge already made. On the website, stopping the next renewal means following this path inside the account: Settings > Subscriptions > click "Your membership will automatically renew until you cancel your subscription by clicking here" > CONTINUE MANAGEMENT. Through the App Store, it means following this path on the phone instead, not anywhere inside SeniorMatch: Settings app > your name > Subscriptions > the subscription > Cancel Subscription. If you only want a single length, turn off auto-renewal through that same route any time before the next renewal date. If you want the current charge back instead, that only works within the 3 business days of subscribing, not after.

One month, three or six

Buying more months at once lowers the price per month on both channels, though the discount shape is not identical between them. On the website, one month works out to $33.99 USD a month; three months brings that down to $23.33 USD a month; six months brings it down further, to $18.33 USD a month. The Canadian App Store shows the same downward pattern: $45.99 CAD, then $30.66 CAD, then $24.17 CAD a month for the same three lengths. The saving is real, but it is front loaded, not spread out: the six month plan asks for $109.99 USD on the website, or $144.99 CAD through the App Store, in a single charge before any of that monthly saving actually shows up.

Our census is a reason to pause before locking in the longest plan right away. Among the same newest 499 Canadian profiles on the men's side of the site, as shown to a woman's account, 57.1% had signed in within the past 30 days, which is a reasonable sign of a healthy pool nationally but says nothing about any one province on its own, since membership is not spread evenly across the country. If you are in a smaller province, use a free account first to see how many people are actually nearby and active before paying for a longer, cheaper-per-month plan; the province-by-province numbers are a faster way to check that than scrolling through search results by hand. Tomorrow: buy one month if you want to test the water, or buy nothing yet and spend a week on the free account instead.
